How to become a blogger in Ghana
Blogging is basically a mini form of journalism where you write and post your article or opinion about a subject or topic be it sports, lifestyle, fashion, entertainment, etc on a blog. I have been blogging for ten years now and I have enjoyed the journey to becoming a blogger in Ghana.
Blogging is now the new media. Traditional media such as radio, television, etc years ago were the only means of communication from media houses owners to citizens of any town, city or country. You can earn one hundred to one thousand Cedis every month blogging about any niche such as beauty, education, sports, lifestyle, among others.
Blogging has over the years become a profession for most people especially the youth. It has created jobs for some unemployed graduates who now make thousands of dollars from their blog and websites. For the past fifteen years, things have changed as a result of social media particularly websites and blogs. When I started blogging in 2013, bloggers in Ghana were not up to ten but eight years down the line, we have thousands of Ghanaian bloggers with blogs and websites.
Blogging gradually grew in Ghana when the youth realized how lucrative blogging can be. Do you know whiles sharing your account ideas through articles on your blog, you can also monetize the blog and earn money out of it?.
Bloggers have increased in number in Ghana over the years, hence it has become very difficult to become successful as blogger due to the competitiveness. Becoming a blogger in Ghana is very easy. It will take just few dollars and time to start your own blog in Ghana. I started my blog writing about lifestyle and entertainment and with time, I have added beauty and sports blogging to my niche. I think everyone should have a blog. Becoming a blogger in Ghana is very easy so do not panic. Just follow the steps and tips that I have given you and you are good to go.
To become a blogger in Ghana or start a blog in Ghana, you first have to go to Godaddy or any other domain and hosting buyers to buy your first domain and a hosting platform to start your blog.
For domains, Godaddy is the best company to buy a domain. However, with the hosting platform, buy it from Bluehost, Dreamhost , Hostgator or Ipage.
After grabbing your domain from Godaddy, point it to the hosting that you just bought and download wordpress from your Cpanel. Choose a theme or template, start posting and there you have it, your blog. If all these technicalities are hard for you, you can hire a professional to set it up for you. Also you can check YouTube for videos on how to set up a blog.
The next thing is to choose a niche or generalize, promote your articles or stories on all social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Pinterest,Tumblr, etc. You can generalize your blog by talking about sports, entertainment, education, politics, health, beauty, finance and other social issues. However, a blogger can always choose to specialize on a particular niche be it sports, entertainment, education, beauty, finance and others.
Again, Be consistent with the blog. If you post daily, weekly or monthly, be consistent with the posts and you will have a committed number of readers. For instance, when you run an education or lifestyle blog, readers will always want to see the next article or opinion.
After the technical steps mentioned above on how to become a blogger in Ghana, there are other traits or behaviors that you should have or study in order to be a successful blogger in Ghana at the moment.
The blogging industry in Ghana is saturated, so you have to work twice as hard before you can stand out from the crowd of bloggers.
First of all, strategically, the niche that you choose should be filled with less bloggers and not more. Once the number of bloggers in a particular niche is not done by many, it can help you to easily become a popular and influential blogger in Ghana without much difficulty. In Ghana for instance, you want to start a blog, do not choose to write on the entertainment niche. The entertainment niche is saturated and they already have top notch bloggers on that side. So choose a niche like sports, beauty, fashion, education, etc which is not saturated and is filled by less bloggers. When I started blogging in Ghana in 2013, I started with the lifestyle and entertainment niches. I loved every aspect of it because I was already studying sociology and following entertainment stuff. As a result, writing on lifestyle and entertainment was very easy for me.
Secondly, to stand out as a blogger in Ghana, you have to find strategies to develop and build a large social media following on either of the available social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn, TikTok, Rumble, etc. You can post your work in social media platform groups with many people who might see and follow your work.
Again, collaborate with others bloggers through guest posting to get new audience. Guest blogging is one of the most important tools in blogging. Figure out a colleague blogger who has a similar niche and asked them to collaborate with you.
Traditional media was the most patronized in Ghana before the advent of Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn, TikTok, among others. However, online media such as blogs and news websites are the go to for viewers at the moment. People look for news and articles on blogs first these days, before buying a graphic or watching tv. All forms of breaking news now come first on the internet on blogs before television stations like Tv3, Onua television, United Television, Metro Television, Adom Television, etc get to break it to their audience.
I love blogging and I will always blog about topics that are of interest to me and my audience.
Thank you for reading.
